GBV Survivors’ Petitions to the Executive Board

World Bank employees, survivors of Sexual Assault and Sexual Harassment within the institution, are in a 16 Day Hunger Strike (Nov 25-Dec 10) calling for Safe Working Conditions. To that end, we request the following to the Executive Board of Directors:

1. A confidential meeting to share, not only our stories, but necessary actions and urgent solutions

2. No retaliation, intimidation or career derailment for confidentially and anonymously sounding the alarm on perpetrators (e.g., no stigma, hostile work environment, discrimination, withholding salaries without cause, obstacles for career promotions, unequal access to opportunities)

3. Granting Workplace GBV survivors’ right to access to information, including: a copy of the EBC case and a detailed written explanation of the final decision

4.Clear consequences on perpetrators (e.g., Immediate end of their appointments, no re-entry on any Bank premises, permanent record on their HR files, and being included in a sexual perpetrator list)

5.Reparations and compensation to workplace GBV survivors of all inflicted damages

6.An Independent Third-Party Investigation on the Status of Workplace GBV within the Institution, conducted by specialized prosecutors on GBV

7.Removal of Internal Justice System (IJS) cases from the chain of command and creation of an Appeals Mechanism

8.Independence, transparency and accountability within the IJS, whereby a Vice President of Ethics can not become Vice President of Human Resources and then Vice President of a Region

9.No more Task Forces, Working Groups or Town Halls on Sexual Harassment, in particular, since the creation of the internal Task Force on Sexual Harassment with inefficient results. What is needed are urgent actions and holistic solutions to address Sexual Assault and Harassment with real consequences, not protections, on perpetrators as described above.

10.The resignations of the President, the General Counsel, the Vice President of Human Resources, the Vice President for Western and Central Africa (who was the former Vice President of Human Resources and former Vice President for Ethics and Business Conduct) and the Chief Ethics Officer.
